Halfway vegetarian

by Lauren on January 25, 2012

In part of my eating healthy routine, I have become a big fan of going partly vegetarian. This means I only eat meat a couple of times a week instead of everyday. Not only does it make you feel better but you can tell a difference on the scale as well.

Most people think of vegetarian as eating a lot of salads. While theres no problem with this, I think I would get a little bored with just eating greens. Here are a few recipes that will perk up your vegetarian meals. I’ve tried them both and they definitely won’t disappoint.

Vegetarian chili

I didn’t even miss the meat in this recipe. I also modified it a little and put cheese and crushed up tortilla chips on top. It was delish!

Vegetarian pasta

This recipe was also a winner. It was so healthy yet I was still satisfied. I put shrimp in my pasta but you could even just use veggies if your not a seafood fan.

Enjoy and let me know what you think of the recipes.

Winter time favorites

by Lauren on January 20, 2012

Winter time has officially arrived In full force this week. I can’t say I have annoyed walking to class outside in weather that’s below freezing. Although I am a warm weather girl to no end, there are a few things I can say I enjoy about winter.

I love having my infinity scarf in a neutral shade because I can wear it with so many outfits. It makes any winter ensemble a little more fashionable.

These are too cute for sipping hot coffee or tea. There is nothing better than wrapping your hands around a warm mug during cold months.

lip balm.

My lips really take a beating in the winter so I’ve been looking for just the right lip balm for awhile. What I love about this one is it’s also tinted to give you that just bitten look.

Hopefully winter won’t last too long and we can jump to those sunnier months ahead but I’m going to try and enjoy it while it’s here.

Decorating Journey: Finished Product

by Lauren on January 16, 2012

I have finished my decorating journey and am excited to share with you my new room! You can take a peak at my inspiration here and see some of things I bought shopping here. Although it did take a lot of work to put this room together, I can officially say I am proud to call it home. Sometimes the things you work the hardest for, are the most rewarding.

Welcome to my new room!

Below, is the built-in-dresser I painted. Originally it was a white primer color, I decided teal offered the perfect amount of color with all the black and white in the rest of the room. At first the color was overwhelming but after I added bits of teal throughout, I actually became quite fond of it.

I decided against a headboard because I thought it would take up too much wall space. Instead I used a framed cork board that I got at Hobby Lobby for %50 off. I thought the cork board added a more personal touch while still looking put together.

Guest Post- Winter to Spring Style

by Lauren on January 13, 2012

I couldn’t be more excited to announce that this guest blog post comes from Kelsey at Loft 222. She is a fellow fashionista who runs a fabulous blog about all her fashion finds. Check out her post below on how to transition your wardrobe from winter to spring and dont forget to sneak a peek at the post I did for her on her blog.

Winter is on it’s way out and the transition to Spring has begun! This is all great, but I’m going to be honest, it kind of cramps my style. It seems like the weather can’t make up its mind and half the time, the clothes I put on in the morning just don’t work for the random change of season that seems to occur midday. But I’m not worried, Mother Nature is no match for my end of season essentials!

Here’s a breakdown of what you’re going to need:

A Boyfriend Blazer

Jeggings or Skinny Jeans

A Lightweight Scarf

A Versatile Pair of Boots

A Classic Gold Watch

A Great Face Lotion

Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment

& Burt’s Bees Lipbalm

The best part about all of these pieces is that they are versatile! A great fitting blazer can be worn to work and then out afterwards for drinks. You can dress it down with some boyfriend jeans and sandals for a casual but put together look, or dress it up for a dinner date. A comfy pair of skinny jeans are an absolute must. I swear I wear mine every day. Pair them with boots for those chilly leftover days of Winter, or with some pumps for when the weather starts to look up. Another thing I am obsessed with this season is a lightweight printed scarf. These scarves are great because they are still warm enough, but can also keep you looking cute all through the Spring and Summer. Multi-purpose is kind of my thing, and as you can see, I love pieces that you can wear more than one way! A pair of versatile boots are another wardrobe must. I live in mine all Winter and when Spring comes around, I pair them with pretty little dresses and chunky jewelry for a fresh and fun look. Last but certainly not least on my transition list is a classic gold watch. Accessories are everything in my mind, and nothing says I am confident and beautiful like a smart looking watch!

Not only does your closet need some help adjusting for it to be ready for Spring, but your beauty regime does too. The Winter months bring beautiful snow and ice (OK, maybe that last one isn’t THAT pretty), but along with that comes brutal wind and air that dries out your skin and hair. Well, we can’t let that happen now can we? Of course not! My go to products that I turn to in order to avoid such crisis are my Murad Face Lotion, Burt’s Bees Lipbalm, and Moroccan Oil Treatment for my hair. A great face lotion is a must have for everyone. It’s as important as toothpaste in my mind. Something I never leave the house without, is my Burt’s Bees. Cracked lips are never cute, and luckily they are easily prevented too! Lastly, my hair. My hair is my #1 accessory. Bad hair can put a damper on any cute outfit. Every day, after I get out of the shower and my hair is wet, I put in a quarter sized dollop of Moroccan Oil. It’s made from argon oil which is the equivalent to diamonds for your hair. It works miracles. Trust me on this one.

Oreo cupcakes with buttercream frosting

by Lauren on January 7, 2012

I recently made double Oreo cupcakes with buttercream frosting for my boyfriends birthday. They were so scrumptious and might be my favorite cupcake so far.

They were pretty easy and were a hit. They have half of an Oreo on the bottom and a few crushed up in the vanilla cupcake. Finally I garnished the top with half of an Oreo in the frosting.

Here is the rest of the recipe here.

Wake up with classy and fab girl

by Lauren on January 5, 2012

Good morning! With an early start driving to Dallas, I thought I would do a breakfast post with yummy healthy breakfast ideas. But first I always start my morning with a cup of coffee with peppermint creamer.

This first breakfast option is berry French toast with a powdered sugar dusting. I bought whole grain French toast from trader joes and it is delicious!

The next option is a blueberry cream cheese Danish and a veggie egg casserole. Delish and healthy!

I found all the recipes on pinterest. Breakfast has to be my favorite meal and always gets me through the day.

Splurge vs. Save

by Lauren on January 3, 2012

Lately I have been on a budget crunch with my shopping due to moving and taking a trip. I have been searching high and low for some great deals that still look chic. Below I have found some pieces that I have been idolizing and then matched them with a less expensive version.
