DIY monogram wreath

by Lauren on September 27, 2013

I was feeling crafty this weekend and was searching on Pinterest for the perfect craft that I could display in out apartment. There were tons and tons of cute wreaths online with flowers, monograms, bows… you name it! I thought it would be fun to create one of my own with the last initial of our last name and color palate of teal, white and tan (burlap, I am kind of obsessed with burlap, I used a lot of it in our wedding!) Below are step by step instructions to help you recreate your own if your having a crafty moment.

Supplies you will need:

4-5 fake flowers (color of your choice, I suggest getting one bright color one and the rest neutral

Monogram wood letter

Wreath

Ribbon or burlap

Hot glue gun

Something to hang the wreath (I used a command strip)

I was able to find all of this at Hobby Lobby for under $50.

It turned out to be a fun addition to our home. I heard one of our neighbors saying how cute it was as she walked by. A wreath is a fun and simple way to update your home and leave guests oohing and ahhing.

neutral color love.

by Lauren on September 18, 2013

I have a feeling I will be wearing lots of neutrals this fall. Not only do they match with everything but then you have the chance to wear fun bright jewelry and scarves to spice it up. Here is my latest outfit with neutrals and hot pink earrings and a fun printed scarf.

I’m on my way to an afternoon meeting and then on to a sushi date at RA Sushi.

beauty bag.

by Lauren on September 17, 2013

I must admit that I love drugstore beauty products. You can find some amazing products down at your corner drugstore for half the price of designer products. The trick is knowing which products are the best to find at a drugstore that don’t perform or look cheap. Here is a round up of some of the drug store beauty finds currently in my bag.

beautyfrom left to right 1/avalon organics vitamin c vitality facial serum. 2/sonia kashuk perfecting translucent illumination. 3/aveno positively radiant daily moisturizer. 4/ eos mint lip balm 5/ garnier skin renew anti puff eye roller 6/ baby lips in pink shock

Personally, I would rather save on awesome products like these so I can splurge on a great pair of shoes or purse.

worry less, run more.

by Lauren on September 15, 2013

I have always loved running ever since I started cross country in high school. I love the feel of pounding the pavement and challenging yourself with every next mile that you run. I am not going to sugar coat it and say running always feels awesome and great because it doesn’t but that feeling after you get done with a long run, oh you feel like you are on top of the world. I just got done with my six mile run and am so glad it’s over. It’s funny how running is such a mental sport. When you are training for a race, you can hit mental barriers which you must overcome by telling yourself that you can do it!

I am training for my second half-marathon which is on Nov. 9. My sister and I are doing it together and even though we can’t train together (she lives in Iowa), we can encourage each other over the phone. I am about a week into my training plan. I thought I would share the plan that I am following. I did some research and combined a couple different plans to fit my running and schedule best. Here is the plan:

RunningSchedule

This a portion of the schedule I am following. I added a 5k in there that I am doing so it kind of threw part of that week off so I could get adequate rest in between my running days but if you end up following this, just up your sunday run by on emile each week until you get to 10-11 miles. I never do the full 13.1 in training because usually during race day, your adrenaline will kick in and propel you that last 2 miles or so.

Happy Running!

pumpkin obsession.

by Lauren on September 4, 2013

With the pumpkin latte coming out this past week at Starbucks, it reminded me of how much I love pumpkin everything! The taste of pumpkin reminds me of cupping a warm pumpkin latte while walking outside in the crisp air. When I was in college, I would always treat myself with a Pumpkin latte while I walked from class to class. Ah the spicy orange taste of pumpkin is probably one of my most  favorite flavors. Here are the best recipes out on the web that incorporate pumpkin.

I am planning on at least making this pumpkin bread this weekend and possibly trying out a few of these other recipes. I have a feeling these are keepers.

fall fashion look book.

by Lauren on September 1, 2013

Fall might possibly be my favorite season mostly because of the fashion. I love wearing cozy sweaters, scarves and boots in the crisp chilly weather. Not to mention the holidays are a big part of why I love the season that is coming up. To enjoy the season I am already thinking about the fashion essentials for this year and have come up with several looks below that I think will be perfect for the autumn months ahead.

These looks are so versatile and can be dressed up or down to take you from work to the weekend. If I had to pick five items that I couldn’t live without this fall the list below would be it.

1. Cable knit sweater

2. Denim chambray button up

3. Red pea coat (a must!)

4. Layering scarves

5. Black skinny jeans

I hope this list helps you refine your shopping when you’re out scouring the sales this weekend. I know I will be looking for some pieces similar to the ones above that will last me through the colder months.
