trendy two: nyfw trends

by Lauren on February 25, 2014

for the second edition of trendy two, Mo and i take on our favorite NYFW fashion trend. there were so many great looks this year from NYFW that i incorporated multiple trends into one outfit. although i did enjoy some of the runway looks, i really liked all the street style from the bloggers. the street style from fashion week is always easier to incorporate into your wardrobe and is more wearable for everyday. if you  missed our first trendy two post make sure to check it out.

favorite NYFW trends:

layers – fashion week was all about the layers especially since there was a snow storm during the week. i chose this infinity cable knit scarf to throw over a sweater

gradient colors – i love wearing a similar color in different hues and went with red pants and a rose colored sweater

oversized bag – i can’t imagine how all the bloggers at NYFW carry everything they need for the day in one bag so its a must to have an oversized bag

make sure to check out mo’s blog for her favorite NYFW trend of black and white.

kansas city fashion week.

by Lauren on February 24, 2014

if you follow CFG on facebook or instagram then you probably know that i have been pretty excited about several opportunities coming up for CFG. i have been chosen to receive a blogger press pass to cover kansas city fashion week in march. i am beyond excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to document the fashion show on here to share with you all.

one of the best parts of KCFW is that it profiles local fashion designers. this year they are featuring a designer who appeared in Project Runway Season 9 and Project Runway All-Stars Season 2. Laura Kathleen is a St. Louis based fashion designer and is the feature designer for the Spring 2014 showcase. I am already loving Laura’s designs, especially since most of the looks would be great off the runway for everyday women.

i am looking forward to sharing KCFW with you all and will be attending events on March 12-16 so be sure to follow me on social media to see where I will be.

pale pink.

by Lauren on February 18, 2014

i love to scour all the nyfw pictures of not only the designers but also fellow bloggers who show off their street style. there were countless trends that emerged this year but i have to say that my favorite is the pale pink look. i have been timid to wear pastels in the past because of the color washing me out but after seeing all these fabulous looks, you can guarantee that you will see me in one of these outfits soon. a few of my favorites are below that incorporate the pale pink into a chic girly style.

don’t be afraid to pair your pale pink with any other neutrals or pastels. i like the monochromatic look best!

sequins & leopard.

by Lauren on February 16, 2014

every girl needs a little sequins and leopard in her closet to spice up her outfits. we made plans to go out to dinner and then to the performing arts center for a musical. it was a great valentines day date, just a day late. with some crazy travel plans due to the weather on the east coast, we ended up celebrating valentines day today instead of yesterday and you know it got me thinking, that i really don’t care about celebrating on the day at all. all i care about is being able to spend time with loved ones and cherish those memories because let’s be honest, you don’t need valentines day to be able to do that. it reminds me to cherish my loved ones every day even when there isn’t a holiday centered around love. life is too short so throw on some sequins and leopard!

simply red.

by Lauren on February 14, 2014

valentine’s day is here and that means lots of red! i found myself wearing red almost everyday this week in anticipation of the big day. our valentine’s day is going to consist of a homemade meal with bottle of pinot and the new house of cards season. we are planning to go out on the town on saturday to beat the crowds. i hope you get to spend the day with loved ones and already know what you will be wearing but in case valentine’s day snuck up on you like it did for me, i’ve got you covered!

this post is based off of one i did a week or two ago with my little red dress (LRD). i styled it two different ways that are perfect for this time of year and incorporate lots of layers. and then of course, every girl needs a perfect red peacoat for an extra pop of color.

inner sparkle.

by Lauren on February 11, 2014

although these sparkly pants are absolutely fabulous, i want to talk about something more serious than fantastic fashion. the topic of inner beauty has been on my mind lately because it makes up a huge part of any woman. as i was doing yoga today, i was listening to pandora on the Deepak Chopra station  (i highly recommend for a calming yoga mix) and he said something that resonated with me. he said in the stillness, we see ourselves and the beauty within. sometimes i think its easy to get wrapped up in life’s busyness and we forget to slow down to take time for ourselves but if we don’t invest in ourselves, how can we give back to our loved ones?

several ways that help me reboot my inner sparkle:

1. yoga – either at the gym or at home, but as long as i can take time to calm my mind and body from the day-to-day stress it helps me rejuvenate

2. cooking a healthy meal – not only does eating healthy help but cooking can also be healing and relaxing

3. grabbing a mag and new nail polish – just this past weekend i went to target and grabbed a couple fashion mag and a new bottle of nail polish. sometimes its the simple things can get you feeling your best.

sailboat sweater.

by Lauren on February 9, 2014

my latest obsession is graphic sweaters, graphic tees, graphic everything… so when i came across this sweater i knew it would be an eclectic piece to add to my wardrobe. with way below freezing temps lately, the denim shirt was a must, plus it adds a nice layer to the outfit. i went shopping with one of my girl friends today and she had never layered her shirts like this before so i encouraged her to try it. she loved the way it looked and i totally agree that is adds a stylish element to any outfit. i recommend investing in a light denim chambray and then also a dark. my favorite is seen here. also a new investment piece seen below is my bow ring. i have been dying to jump in on this trend but have been waiting until i found the right ring. i didn’t want it to be too gawdy but love any jewelry piece in gold.

beauty must haves.

by Lauren on February 5, 2014

most of us are probably snowed in for a couple of days so why not take some extra time in your beauty routine? i know when i need a personal pick me up, i always go to my favorite drug store beauty finds to give me a lift. some of these products i have had forever in my beauty bag and others are new faves that have proven to be winners in my book. i did my first beauty bag post a while ago and it seemed to be a hit. i know i am not the only one that doesn’t want to pay a fortune to look and feel good, so here goes the second beauty bag post. enjoy!

little red dress.

by Lauren on February 3, 2014

It’s hard to believe Valentines Day is around the corner and with February in full swing its time to start thinking about the perfect night out outfit for the day of love! Whether your spending it with you hubby, boyfriend or girls, there is always an occasion to pick an outfit for Valentines Day. Mine might have to be the one below in my little red dress (LRD). I was looking at this dress in my closet the other day and thought how much I loved wearing it in the Spring and Summer but haven’t been able to wear it since. Then I found these polka dot tights that I thought would be perfect with it.

Caitlin and I braved the cold for these pictures but had a blast catching up. We even stopped into a cafe for soup and coffee to warm up. Glad she is a fellow blogger and totally understands. You can never have too many blogger friends!

The hubby and I haven’t made plans yet for Valentines Day but are planning to go out since its on a Friday this year. Last year we ended up going to a dinner theatre and had a blast. I always like doing something unique for Valentines Day instead of the typical dinner and movie but then again I just like being with my loved ones. p.s. here is what the hubby is getting me for Valentines Day. I love it!
