August 2014

you just might fly.

by Lauren on August 29, 2014

i haven’t gotten sick in forever but sure enough this week i got hit with a cold, hard! i toughed it out the first few days but finally gave in and worked from home yesterday so i could rest and recover. it is interesting how sick days force you to slow down and think about things. we get so busy and wrapped up in our day to day routines that often times we don’t realize how great our lives really are. i encourage you take a breather sometime during this long weekend to just enjoy the present moment. clear the thoughts of your “to-do list” or the “have-to’s” and just be. who knows,  if you let yourself go, you just might fly!

west elm KC.

by Lauren on August 27, 2014

i first heard about west elm a while back when i was reading one of my favorite design blogs. i was obsessed with how they decorated their home and sure enough, all of it was from West Elm. i quickly fell in love with their signature animal horn wall hangings and the neutral classy style. i was always so bummed when i would look online at their beautiful pieces and realize i would have to pay shipping and handling.

i was ecstatic when i heard the west elm was coming to the Kansas City Country Club Plaza. it opened not too long ago and i must admit i have already been to scope the place out. not only did i want to buy everything in site but i saw a set of petite gold silverware that i knew i must have. below are just a few of my favorites:

{outfit post} comfy chic.

by Lauren on August 26, 2014

who else would totally wear sweatpants all of the time if you could? this girl would for sure so when i saw that Gap had a new line of track pants, i knew it was a match made in heaven. although these don’t quite make the cut for work, i wore them this past weekend for a girl’s afternoon of fun which of course included a froyo date. this weekend also included catching up with some friends we haven’t seen in a while who just had a baby! it was pretty surreal to see them as parents but so cool. although i am no where near ready to have kids, i love seeing friends become parents and enjoying there little ones.

by Lauren on August 25, 2014

do you have a go-to outfit for when your feeling great? it’s important to find those outfits that make you feel fabulous. i also encourage you to figure out what makes you shine on the inside and then find an outfit to match that feeling. i often think people focus on one or the other when it comes to shining on the inside or outside, but i say why can’t you have both? you deserve it! several ways that help me bring happiness from within is meditating, talking with my grandma and working out. what makes you feel unstoppable?

{event recap} kate spade.

by Lauren on August 21, 2014

what girl doesn’t love to look at beautiful things? when those beautiful things happen to be Kate Spade, it’s even harder to resist. Kate Spade paired up with Go Blog Social and hosted a wonderful event last week called GBSxKSNY. i was invited to attend and couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Thursday than catching up with my blogger gal pals and being surrounded by beautiful Kate Spade merchandise. if you aren’t familiar with Go Blog Social, it was created for bloggers by bloggers to bring together bloggers, social media experts and businesses together for inspiring conferences. I attended their conference in KC this past April and learned SO much. not only did i get some great ideas for CFG but i met some of the most amazing women.

{outfit post} summer brights.

by Lauren on August 20, 2014

i don’t know about you but i love winning things. whether it’s big or small, if it’s free, i am in! a friend entered me into an instagram giveaway and before i knew that i was even entered, i was told that i won the lovely pink top below. the top is from a local Kansas City boutique (btw, its shop local week in KC) called Fable. although they don’t have this particular top online anymore, their other tops are stunning. i paired my top with a striped mini skirt and a gold ‘vintage-inspired’ necklace.

p.s. i thought this background was just too adorable to pass up. it reminds me of a cottage in a small town, even though it was taken here in Overland Park.

life with intention.

by Lauren on August 19, 2014

life is meant to be lived with intention and audacity. in a previous post, i spoke about setting intentions – almost like goals except they require bigger picture thinking. i can honestly say after having one of the roughest year’s of my life that my intentions and my core are what kept me grounded and on the right track. even though at times it felt like i was on cruise control, it helped to have guiding intentions that showed me the way even when i couldn’t see it. i thought i would share those intentions that got me through my lowest lows to possibly help anyone who is going through one of life’s major (or minor) challenges. i promise it will get better and by setting intentions, you can be resilient.

professional intentions

develop and devote myself to a career that i am passionate about and find joy in every day

approach each work day with passion and vigor to do my best work every day

personal intentions

find joy in the simple things and surround myself with those things that make me happy

tell my loved ones that i love them every day

‘for fun’ intentions

make an effort to get together with friends that i haven’t seen in awhile

read one book each month about a new subject matter that i know nothing about

work it.

by Lauren on August 18, 2014

this post is for all the working ladies out there who need a little inspiration for office life. i always say that you can dress office appropriate without losing your personal style. this look below is not only perfect for the office but it also took me to an event after work at the Kate Spade store on the Plaza, more on that later this week. i love mixing bright solids with fun prints like stripes or leopard. plus this skirt hits just below the knee yet isn’t too much fabric. so often people trade their style for modest work looks when in reality you can totally mix the two for a vibrant office look.

a little glimpse of fall.

by Lauren on August 11, 2014

why is it that we are always so eager for the next season. whether it’s the clothes, holidays or traditions, I am always so excited for the next season to arrive and this time of year is no different. autumn is right around the corner and i already am dying to wear my boots. i decided that ankle boots are totally acceptable in August, especially when it’s a rainy dreary day. plus when you wear boots with white jeans it makes for a great transition piece. now all i need to go along with this look is a pumpkin spiced latte in hand, THE best!

as a new season arrives, it feel like it’s the perfect time to set my intentions for the next couple of months. intentions are similar to goals but i like to think of them as lifestyle changes. the decisions i make are ones that i want to have a purpose. even the simple decisions are important to infuse with intention. stay tuned for more on my intentions for the upcoming season.
